What is a cardboard baler?

Let’s start with the basics, what is a cardboard baler?

Simply put, a cardboard baler is generally a hydraulically powered press plate which is loaded with voluminous material, such as cardboard boxes. These machines come in all shapes and sizes - some huge, requiring a machine or conveyor belt to load, some small taking up no more space than a fridge. They all do a smilier job just on a different scale.

So, how does a baler work?

In the case of a vertical baler, the operative loads the machine into the bale chamber. Once loaded, the door is closed so as to not allow access to the immense pressures applied during operation. The press plate pushes down on the material tightly compacting it in to the bottom of the machine. There are many different shapes and sizes as mentioned above ranging from large, fully automatic channel or twin ram balers capable of baling up to 20 tonnes of material per hour, down to smaller machines which will hold 40kg bales, maximising the amount you can get in your bins or skips. The majority of balers we see are what we call mill-size and generate saleable bales which can be sold directly to the mills for the best possible rebate values.
